The pre-screening of The King of Trash was a night filled with emotion, unity, and extraordinary storytelling. Held on November 16, 2025, the event welcomed more than 180 invited guests, including influencers, community leaders, elected officials, and supporters from across the Bay Area. What unfolded inside the theater became one of the most meaningful milestones of our journey.

From the moment guests stepped onto the red carpet, the evening felt special. Laughter, conversations, and warm greetings filled the lobby. Many shared that they had been waiting to see this story told on screen for years — a story that reflects the resilience and experience of so many Vietnamese families.
A Theater Filled with Leaders and Supporters
The room was packed long before the lights dimmed. Guests from diverse backgrounds came together not only to watch a film but to honor a chapter of history that continues to shape our community. Influencers documented the night, business leaders reconnected with old friends, and VIP guests expressed their excitement to witness a story rooted in truth and survival.
There was a shared sense of pride and anticipation — the feeling that this film was going to touch something deep.
The Film That Moved the Entire Room
Once the screening began, the atmosphere shifted. The audience traveled with the Duong family from the fall of Saigon, across the dangerous open sea, through refugee camps, and into their early life in America. Every scene carried emotional weight. Every moment of struggle and hope felt real.
Several guests later admitted they cried multiple times. Others said they had to pause before standing up because the memories hit too close to home. Many reflected that the film reminded them of their parents, their grandparents, and the sacrifices that allowed future generations to succeed.
One attendee shared afterward, “I saw my own family on that screen. This is a story that belongs to all of us.”Another said, “I wasn’t prepared to cry this much. It was beautiful and painful at the same time.”

An Outpouring of Emotion and Powerful Feedback
When the credits rolled, the theater erupted in applause. It wasn’t simply appreciation for a film — it was gratitude. Gratitude for the truth, the courage, and the humanity captured in the documentary.
The post-film Q&A with David, Victor, and Kristina deepened the emotional impact. They spoke honestly about their memories, the challenges of rebuilding their lives, and the lessons they hope future generations will take away. Guests listened closely, some still wiping away tears.
The feedback throughout the night was overwhelmingly positive. Many expressed how important it is for this film to reach schools, community groups, and families who want to reconnect with their history. Others praised the direction, cinematography, and storytelling — calling it one of the most authentic refugee narratives ever captured on film.

Capturing the Moments That Matter
Throughout the night, guests took photos, shared their reactions, and connected with the Duong family. Red-carpet photos, candid moments, and emotional snapshots captured the heart of the event.
These images reflect exactly what we hoped to achieve: a space where community, memory, and storytelling come together.
